There are different types of examination administered by the radiology department including: Radiography, Fluoroscopy, Computerised tomography (CT), Nuclear medicine or isotope scan, Portables, Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Each of these has there own Health and Safety issues but this paper concentrates on the more general aspects found in them all.

This paper discusses the radiographers role in ensuring the patients Health and Safety whilst under their care.
The Radiographer
It is essential that the Radiographer is amply qualified to operate indoors the environment and is authorized to administer the examination that is be carried out. They should also be fully conversant with all departmental procedures.

The Patient

Examination requests should correlate to clinical history and be fully authorized.
