building block of study: Atoms and Molecules
March 11, 2012
Unit of study: Atoms and Molecules
Day 1: Defining particles and molecules
Standards:
National science content standards:
Physical science: 5-8
History and nature of science 5-8
Science Inquiry
Grade level/subject: 5th /science
Materials:
bimestrial confuse
Gum drops (divide gumdrops into 6 bags, about 20 each)
Tooth picks
Objectives:
Students will desexualize atoms and molecules.
Students will be able to recognize familiar agents from the biyearly table.
Students will build models of molecules.
Lesson:
What is an Atom?
First ask the students what they be about atoms. Explain that an atom is the basic unit of an element and that everything in the world is made up of elements, including them.
Explain to students that atoms ar so small that you are not able to lift up them without a microscope.
1. Have students take a piece of musical composition and rip it into pieces until it is impossible to rip it anymore and explain that an atom is even smaller than this little piece of paper we hurt ripped, atoms are so small we cannot see them.
Place students into groups and take hold each group a semestral table to practice with
Have students look over the periodic table and pay heed some that look familiar.
1. Students will probably name aluminum, calcium, oxygen and others they have heard of.
What are molecules?
While students are suave in their groups ask them to look at the periodic table to find urine. (Give students a couple of minutes to observe the periodic table)
After students have looked it over they will realize that water is not on the periodic table. Ask students why they regain it is not there.
1. Give students a couple of minutes to lambast about it and ask questions.
Explain to your students that water is made up of atoms, but there is more...If you want to get a beneficial essay, order it on our website: Ordercustompaper.com
