For his important defense he presents a story to the jurors about his recall dose Chaerephon that travels to Delphi and asks an oracle if any man is wiser than Socrates. The oracle replies that no oneness is wiser than Socrates, just now when told, Socrates does not believe this to be true. He past goes around questioning other men he believes to be wiser than he and ultimately finds they are not. This is part of what brings him to the court in the first place.
Socrates brings up the story of the oracle at Delphi because it constitutes as a defense for several reasons. It cancels out the accusation that he studies things above and below the Earth.
To be clearer his accusers thought that he was essay to come up with physical reason and explanation for what human beings are and why we are here, like the philosophers before him. This would channelise that he does not believe in God but by bringing up this story he put ups that he does. He was trying to prove to the judges that he was undermentioned the voice in his head and fulfilling the mission God gave him to bonk a just virtuous life. At this point I believe he is using the story of the oracle to prove that he is not questioning the Gods that the Athenians believe in, but he is asking these questions to better understand what wisdom is or if it is anything at all.
