Ms Tam Pham is the name of the coach-and-four I have interviewed. She is currently playing a management role at Woolworth supermarket at Flemington. Ms Pham attitude is called Service Manager whom position is equivalent to first-line manager, she is managing a team of staffs and directly involving with the day-to-day client emolument at the supermarket. As a service manager she is reporting to the store manager who will report to the body politic manager.
According to the information I obtained from the interview with Ms Pham, I would say rational-functional is best descried what Ms Pham does as a service manager. With function approach, managers perform certain activities or duties as they expeditiously and effectively coordinate the work of others (Robbins, 2006, p. 10).
The Woolworth supermarket at Flemington is one of a chain supermarket around Australia and is under the umbrella of an international organisation. robin redbreast (2006, p6) defined an organisation as a deliberate army of people to accomplish some specific purpose.



As an globalize organisation Woolworth has to have manager at paltry to middle levels that can help the organisation to achieve its goals as the success and survival of the organisation depends on how wellhead managers can identify or create market opportunities and thence provide good services which satisfy in areas of quality, variety, approachability and price (Chapman, 2001, p. 56).
Research done by Robert L. Katz found that managers gather up the 3 essential skills or competencies: 1) technical, 2) human, 3) conceptual. The result from my interview has shown that the 3 skills stated by Katz are definitely reflected through her role.
