What is the tackting (time and place) for this story?
It is set in the catacombs, burial places where bones have been resting for centuries. It is kind of scary. It is set during carnival season.
What is important ab come out of the closet this setting historically, culturally, geographically or otherwise?
Since it was set in the catacombs, it is kind of a scary setting during carnival. So there are opposites, jollity and fluff and on the other hand death. The names suggest Italy as the geographic setting, Amontillado, Luchesi, Fortunato, Montresor. It was at a time when a set of British spent time in Italy, often using up months at a time there and some occlusion lived there full time.
Only rich people could bear with to do that so they were like sitting ducks to be taken advantage of by street smart Italians.
From what or whose point of view is this story told?
It is a first person grievance by Montresor.
How does that affect what we know about the plot? the characters?
For one thing it limits what we know about Fortunato. We never find out what crimes he has committed against Montresor. We never know the other status of the story. We just know what Montresor is telling us and he is precisely an objective narrator.
