Choices Poem

The meter Choices by Nikki Giovanni is very beautifully written. The overall daze of the poem is that of reconciliation to whatever life offers. It seems there is provided one choice and that is accepting ones fate. But at the land up of the poem (line 30 32) there is a note of rebelliousness in the cry of a human being. This is the only modal value a man differs from an animal. The poem presents a very affecting and reality of human lives. We too can identify ourselves with it. to each one day, every moment, every time we cast off to make a decision we are at crossroads because social constraints reckon heavy upon our minds.
The informant uses symbolism to help us get a line that at times you do not perpetually flip control of your destiny and you must follow the way life. The motive says since I cant go where I imply to go then I must go where the signs point(line 16-19) this substance that since I can not go where I need to go then I must follow the path of life that has been laid out. At the end of the poem the author uses juxtaposition except thats why mankind wholly among the animals learns to cry (lines 29-31) this is making a comparison between man and animals. Mankind, unlike animals is able to express his emotions through tears at realizing the unfairness of life.
It speaks of dramatic limitations; not being able to do/have what we wish.



It teaches us to be grateful for the things that we do have and not worry about the things we cant change. Many people waste too much time and energy on could have, should have, capacity have, and would have been. We understand that these things arent equal, and its okay to cry about it sometimes, but ultimately, you accept what is and do the best you can with it. Essentially, it breaks down to this: a lot of the time, we do have a choice, but when we dont, we always have the choice about our attitude. And sometimes, thats really all you need.
