Edgar Allen Poe is thought of as one of the greatest writers in Ameri hind end history. He had his own style which did not humor the lecturer or even leave them with a feeling of happiness. Poes custom of imagery, symbolism, and tone is prevalent in such kit and caboodle as The draw of the House of Usher, The Masque of the Red decease, and The Raven. Many of Poes works contain scenes of the supernatural and generally the characters are inflicted with disquietude, whether it be grotesque or arabesque. Much of Poes inspiration can be directed to his strange and difficult life. His style was ridiculous because it was considered unfairness and mysterious, unlike many of the other writers of his time. Through these works of literature, Poe tries to send a message that the world is a dark and gloomy place to live in.
Poe was born in capital of Massachusetts on January 19th, 1809 and was orphaned at an early age. He was accordingly sent to live with a foster family in Richmond. Poe won a short story contest in 1833, and later became a literary critic for a magazine.(Americana 123) Shortly after, he married his 13-year-old cousin, Virginia, in 1836. He became nationally famous upon the number of his poem The Raven in 1845. His life was marred by infrequent but intense drinking bouts which gave him a braggy reputation.



However, he continued to produce excellent short stories which brought him harbinger in America, England, and especially in France. Unfortunately, after the death of Poes wife, he fell apart and died two years later on October 7, 1849.(Americana 124) Poes writing style earned him his popularity because it was different than other writers of the time.
The Fall of the House of Usher illustrates Poes belief that the effect of the story depends on the tone. Every detail of this story, starting with the opening description of the removed landscape and the dark rooms in the house, helps convey the terror that overwhelms and destroys the mind of Roderick Usher.
