In any democratic country the media plays a vital character reference in creating, moulding and reflecting public opinion. Over the years the media became so powerful that it acquired the status of Fourth Estate as it was capably described by the British politician Edmund Burke. It also became so indispensable for the democratic functioning that Thomas Jefferson who was also the thirdly US president said, were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not flicker for a moment to prefer the latter. 

The origin of todays media is the brand media which has an ancient history. Print media has been an important pillar in the press for democracy in many countries across the globe. Indian leadership also chose the print media to spread their movement for freedom and to initiate the feeling of patriotism amongst the fellow citizens. MK Gandhi started his first newspaper Indian Opinion (1903) at south Africa, and then in India Harijan, Harijanbandhu, Harijansevak in English, Gujarati and Hindi, respectively.



The two journals Young India and Navjivan were employ by him to ventilate his views and to educate the public on Satyagraha. Dr. Brimrao Ambedkar founded a fortnightly newspaper Mook Nayak (1917) at Bombay. Kesari in Marathi and Maratha in English(1881) be the two newspapers started by lokmanya tilak. These newspapers were the vehicles of crusade against the British rule in India. 

Thus Media can be referred to as the most touristy means of communication today. It has become a very intact part of our lives and therefore it creates so much of debate and favourite interest about any social problem.
