Construction of the basilica Julia in 54 BCE took place under Julius Caesar, and was paid for by the spoils of the Gallic War.  It was built in the Forum across from the Basilica Aemilia, on the site where the Basilica S empronia once stood.  It was finished in 48 BCE and dedicated to Julius Caesar by Augustus, but it burnt raven in 9 BCE.  The rebuild commenced soon after, and was rededicated to Gaius and Lucius Caesar in 12 CE.  In 283 CE, it was damaged by fire again, and was restored by Diocletian presently thereafter.

 Finally, during the sacking of Rome by Alaric in 410 CE, the Basilica Julia was change magnitude to the rubble it is today.
