The engagement of Passchendaele (also known as the Third betrothal of Ypres or the Battle of Mud) was a be given commencement on the 31st of July and ending on the 6th of November 1917, fetching place in Passendale, Belgium. The subsequent misfortune and abandonment of Nivelles campaign set the stage for the Battle of Passchendaele.
Generally Haig was convinced that the Germany Army was suffering from low morale and was close to collapse. He was also on high enliven after the decisive British victory at the Battle of Messines in which the British managed to launch a successful offensive in the village of Mesen.
Haig aimed to create a breakthrough through Flanders and push the German forces back and eventually to destroy the German submarine bases situated on the Belgium coast.
